Indochinite and Philippinite tektites are both part of the Australasian tektite strewn field, but they have some distinct differences:

1. Origin & Location:

Indochinites are found primarily in Southeast Asia, including Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, and parts of southern China.

Philippinites are found specifically in the Philippines.

2. Appearance & Shape:

Indochinites tend to be more elongated, smooth, or irregular in shape, often with flow marks and aerodynamic forms due to their re-entry effects.

Philippinites are typically more spherical, dumbbell-shaped, or have a textured surface, sometimes with deep pits (called "bread-crust" weathering), which are less common in Indochinites.

3. Size & Weight:

Philippinites are often heavier and denser, with some of the largest known tektites coming from the Philippines.

Indochinites vary more in size and can be lighter with more delicate forms.

4. Rarity & Value:

Philippinites are rarer than Indochinites, making them more valuable in the tektite market.

Indochinites are more abundant and widely available, often being the most affordable type of tektite.

5. Formation & History:

Both Indochinites and Philippinites formed from the same meteorite impact, likely around 780,000 years ago. However, their differing shapes and distributions are due to variations in atmospheric travel, cooling processes, and geological conditions where they landed.
